🧐 The Role
Forward Deployed Engineers at Awell work directly with customers to quickly understand their greatest problems and design and implement solutions built on the Awell Platform. In this role, you’ll apply your problem solving ability, creativity, and technical skills to help organizations implement and leverage the Awell Platform to drive a real impact on caregivers and their patients.
Our Go-To-Market is inspired by Palantir's playbook: we “forward-deploy” engineers to our customers to tackle their challenges head-on, getting things done, no matter what it takes. This often means going beyond standard solution engineering work—whether it’s creating new components on the fly or customizing integrations to meet the unique needs of a customer.
If you enjoy meeting customers on-site, working intensively with all CareOps stakeholders—including clinical experts, clinical operations, software engineering and product management—and delivering real impact for patients in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, then this role could be perfect for you.
😎 Responsibilities
- Technical Implementation: Lead the technical aspects of implementing the Awell Platform, including system integrations, data mapping and API configurations.
- Bootcamp Delivery: Participate in 3-day on-site bootcamps at customer locations to rapidly deploy the Awell Platform and solve customers’ challenges.
- Project Management: Manage implementation projects, ensuring all customer requirements are clearly understood and delivered on time. Plan backwards from launch milestones to make sure nothing is left behind.
- Customer Engagement Post Go-Live: Stay close to customers after their go-live, understanding their evolving needs, and identifying changes or enhancements that could increase the value they derive from the Awell Platform.
- Internal Communication of Customer Needs: Communicate the problems customers are facing and the solutions we built during bootcamps and propose new products or features that Awell could build to solve these challenges.
✅ Requirements
Can’t live without:
- Our Mission, Vision and Values excite you
- Coding Skills: You have experience in coding and are comfortable creating or modifying components and features as needed. You will need to build something from scratch or adjust existing elements to meet customer requirements.
- Hackathon Mindset: You thrive in environments where you need to move fast, solve complex problems, and aren’t afraid to "hack" things together to deliver value.
- Customer obsession: You are relentlessly obsessed with delivering value to customers. You have experience working in customer-facing roles where you act as a 'dog that doesn't let go' ensuring customer problems are solved and satisfaction is achieved at all costs.
- Project Management Abilities: Strong skills in planning, prioritizing, and coordinating multiple aspects of implementation projects. You’re able to "think backwards" to identify all necessary workstreams and ensure they’re delivered on time.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to work with diverse roles, from engineers to clinicians. You know how to make technical aspects clear to non-technical stakeholders and build excitement around our solutions.
- Willingness to Travel: You are open to traveling to customer sites across the US to deliver value during implementation bootcamps.

🚀 Closing thoughts
We want to end with a piece from a16z’s “Hey Tech, It’s Time To Build. In Healthcare.” article as it conveys why we believe this is the right time to join a healthcare startup.
"In 2013, Marc Andreessen observed that the biggest, most successful companies have all done something that seemed completely “crazy” at the time of creation. The examples from the last two decades are clear. Sleeping in a stranger’s home? Airbnb. Getting in a stranger’s car? Lyft. Putting a personal computer in everyone’s home, and then in everyone’s pocket, and then on everyone’s wrist? Apple.
But what sounds crazy in 2023? Certainly not another meal delivery service, recruiting tool, or dating app. More broadly, we all agree that mobile, internet, the cloud, and SaaS are consensus and mainstream.
Here’s what sounds crazy in 2023: Trying to fix the United States’ gigantic mess of a healthcare system.
The U.S.’s largest industry–one fifth of the American economy–is unspeakably broken. The United States severely lags behind other developed nations in terms of health outcomes and cost. Hundreds of thousands of people die each year because of avoidable human errors.
Modern technology has little penetration in healthcare. The industry still largely relies on paper and fax machines for communication.
The most impactful companies are built at the frontier, and healthcare is the next frontier. It’s time to put our tech skills to work. The mother of all markets is ripe for disruption."
