Perci Health is the UK’s largest and most comprehensive virtual cancer clinic, redefining cancer care by addressing the long-term effects of treatment. It provides fast access to a multidisciplinary team with expertise across 20+ specialisms, ensuring patients receive expert support beyond their initial diagnosis .
Challenge
Perci struggled with the complexity of delivering high-quality, personalized cancer care. With a risk-averse culture shaped by traditional systems, care was difficult to standardize, making it challenging to measure the impact of interventions. Additionally, care processes were locked in code, making updates slow and requiring significant engineering effort.
Disease complexity – Hundreds of cancer types with thousands of treatment combinations.
Care complexity – Multidisciplinary teams with distinct training and workflows.
Product complexity – Lack of standardization made tracking and improving outcomes difficult.
Engineering bottlenecks – Care was hardcoded, making updates slow, maintenance difficult, and requiring reverse-engineering to understand their logic.
Solution & Impact
“In cancer care, speed matters. With Awell, we’ve closed the gap between idea and value—allowing us to rapidly design, test, and deploy care flows that improve patient outcomes without relying on engineering.”- Paddy Rehill, Chief Technology Officer
To overcome these challenges, Perci implemented Awell’s CareOps platform, removing care from code and enabling rapid building and testing of care flows. By leveraging our low-code infrastructure, Perci was able to scale its digital cancer care experience while reducing engineering reliance.
Navigating care complexity– With diverse cancer types, treatments, and specialist workflows, predicting outcomes is challenging. Perci uses Awell to probe, sense, and adapt, continuously refining care flows based on real-world insights. This allows for structured, evidence-based decision-making, ensuring adaptable and effective care for both patients and providers .
Decoupling care from code– Perci uses Awell as infrastructure for a headless patient experience, abstracting care flows from code. Awell-powered forms and actions integrate seamlessly, enabling care teams to create, modify, and deploy updates to workflows, content, and forms instantly within the Perci patient app.
Enabling rapid iteration – Perci can update and deploy new care flows in as little as 9 minutes, ensuring clinical pathways evolve in real time. This adaptability reduces dependency on static protocols, allowing Perci to align care delivery with the latest best practices and patient needs.
